A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to a year behind bars for beating a gay man in Salt Lake City last year. Third District Judge Deno Himonas imposed the sentence on Fa Junior Moi Moi, who pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault with deadly force. In exchange for his plea, charges of aggravated assault and simple assault were dropped. Police say Moi Moi and several of his friends met an 18-year-old man in August 2008. Moi Moi is accused of assaulting the man after learning he was gay. The victim ended up with several broken facial bones. Moi Moi also was placed on probation for 36 months and ordered to pay restitution of more than $36,000 and perform 200 hours of community service.

It is quite sad to me that any human being can look at another and choose to assault him or her. We all have differing values, opinions, etc. but one's sexual orientation should not merit aggression and brutal force. I feel that Moi Moi's punishment was just, and hopefully besides reparing some of the damages he has caused he has also come to the realization of what he did and why it was wrong.
ReplyDeleteI agree with McDaniels said...We all have the right to agree or disagree with others views, orientations, even race, but when this agreeance or disagreeance results in violence, then it is obviously wrong. When mankind can finally use its mind and not might to debate issues it will be a welcome day indeed.
