Westboro Baptist Church
I came across this website because this organization is picketing at a funeral of a young man from my hometown. This young man was a soldier who died in Afghanistan while protecting another soldier. The Westboro Baptist Church is of the opinion that every soldier who dies is a way of God showing his wrath because America won't ban homosexual activity. I was shocked when I saw the announcement of the picketing (especially when a family is mourning a death!) and even more shocked when I investigated the website.

Thank you for posting this. It definitely opened my eyes, I knew there was hate out there but this seems to be a bit extreme. God loves everyone no matter what, His love is not conditional. I could never see God killing someone as a punishment for someone else's sins. That is why we will be called to the bar at judgement day and be judged according to our own deeds and actions and not by the actions of others. It is incredible that they would dare to say this at the poor man's funeral with his family there. There must be some honor, whether you like the person or not, for a man who gave his life to save another's and he is a soldier defending our country and deserves respect just for that alone.
ReplyDeleteThis announcement and website made me so sad that there are actually people in our world today who could believe such horrible things. It is so sad that a church, which is supposed to be a symbol of love and acceptance, can be so full of hatred and judgement. It is so horrible and disrespectful to both the the family of young man who was killed and to all the soldiers putting there lives on the line for us to be safe. This is a perfect example of when the scriptures warn us about "the great and abominable church", because this church is promoting exactly the opposite of what Jesus Christ taught. He taught us to be loving, accepting, kind, and respectful. Although I do believe this is an extreme case, I have witnessed so much hatred and ignorance first hand, and it is always so sad. This man did an incredible service and is the ultimate example of selflessness, and I wish that the Westboro Baptist Church could follow his example and be more like Christ.
ReplyDeleteWho do these people think they are? This documentary made me sick. It is so sad that these people are so obsessed with hatred. They have such a twisted view of Christianity. I really can't even comprehend how they can live this way.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what Eliza said, what a horrible and disrespectful thing to do to this soldier, his family and to all the soldiers out there fighting for our freedom and to keep our country safe. It makes me sick to read this announcement and especially the line at the bottom. I too have witnessed ignorance and hatred and I don't understand how people can think and live this way with so much hatred in their heart. What a horrible thing for this family to have to go through at a time of mourning for their loved one who gave his life protecting another soldier.
