During my mission in New York I met 15 to 20 deaf Mexican's who had been slaves. Deaf Mexican's in the U.S. traveled back to Mexico and rounded up several other Deaf Mexicans. They promised good jobs and a better life, brought them to the U.S. then made them slaves. In Queens they had two houses where they kept several of the slaves locked up. They were forced to go on the trains and sell trinkets to people. If they didn't meet their quotas they were beat, tasered, and the woman were raped. One woman, Elvira, told me about walking up and down train cars barefoot in the middle of New York's cold winter. Her task master was always watching them to be sure they didn't tell about their situation. I just thought this might add an interesting perspective to the crime and immigration debate.
