The untended consequences of Alabama's immigration law
Georgia passed a similar law and has already lost an estimated 75 million dollars this year; they are now trying to pass an emergency guest worker bill.

I think it just goes to show that the "immigration problem" isn't as simple as some would make it out to be. You cannot merely kick all the illegal immigrants out of the country because so many businesses and farmers rely on these workers. Even though there are so many people without jobs in America, Americans aren't willing to do the jobs that illegal immigrants do. They would rather rely on welfare. I think this is a problem that will not be solved any time soon.

ReplyDeleteThis illustrates the misconception that illegal immigrants are "stealing" jobs that Americans need. Although these tough immigration laws fall within legal bounds, they fail to recognize the critical importance of these illegal laborers within the American economy and fail to present solutions, such as a guest worker program or new immigration laws. As stated in the video, $75 million has been lost in Georgia's leading economy: farming. Such significant loses with impact not only farm owners, but everyone within the company. Because of this, legislators need to analyze the long-term cost of their immigration bills and work on finding ways to solve problems, rather than just mask issues.
